ISD #318 Jazz Fest
The ISD #318 Jazz Festival has been a long standing tradition, going back to the Mid 1980's. The jazz festival is a non-competitive format that allows students to share in the American Music tradition of Jazz. The festival is always in May and features some of the finest jazz musicians as clinicians. Previous artists have included Jeff Rupert, Denis DiBlasio, Wycliffe Gordon, Allen Vizzutti, Tom Brantley, Dean Sorenson, Rex Richardson, Kenni Holmen, Bret Zvacek, Michael Philip Mossman, Ryan Frane and the list goes on.
The 2019 ISD #318 Jazz Festival will be Monday April 29, 2019. We are extremely excited to announce Ingrid Jensen will be our guest clinician and soloist! Ingrid is an Internationally Renown Trumpet Player, Clinician and Educator. Jensen was born in North Vancouver and grew up in Nanaimo. She received a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
After graduating from Berklee, she toured with the Vienna Art Orchestra and taught at the Bruckner Conservatory in Austria when she was 25. She went back to the U.S. in 1994 and became a member of the DIVA Big Band. During the same year, her debut album Vernal Fields (Enja, 1994) appeared and won a Juno Award. Jensen has worked with Maria Schneider, Steve Wilson, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Bob Berg, Gary Bartz, Bill Stewart, Terri Lyne Carrington, Geoffrey Keezer, Billy Hart, George Garzone, Chris Connor, Victor Lewis, Clark Terry, Frank Wess, and Billy Taylor, as well as her sister Christine Jensen.
